Tending to What You Wear

Fine jewelry, crystals and beaded pieces ask for small daily kindnesses. With a little care your piece will keep its luster — and the energy you have entrusted it with — for many years.

Daily Wear — Five Things to Do

  • Put your jewelry on last after dressing — and take it off first when undressing.
  • Wipe pieces gently with the cloth in your packaging at the end of each day.
  • Keep crystals and pearls away from direct sunlight when stored.
  • Rotate between two or three pieces if you wear jewelry daily — rest preserves shine.
  • Note small movements: a clasp that snags, a thread that catches. Early attention saves later repairs.

Daily Wear — Five Things to Avoid

  • Water — remove pieces before showering, swimming and washing dishes.
  • Perfume, hairspray, lotion, and household cleaners.
  • Sleep — friction from bedding stretches cords and dulls metal over time.
  • Sport and gym work — sweat is acidic and accelerates tarnish.
  • Stacking different metals in one compartment without padding (causes micro-scratches).

Cleaning by Material

MaterialHow to clean
Solid gold (14k / 18k)Warm water with a drop of pH-neutral soap, soak 1–2 minutes, brush gently with a soft toothbrush, rinse and pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Polish with the cloth in your packaging.
Sterling silver (S925)Use the anti-tarnish cloth in your packaging. For deeper tarnish, a silver dip or a paste of baking soda + water works — never on pieces with pearls, opals, turquoise or porous stones.
PearlsWipe with a slightly damp soft cloth after each wear. Never submerge. Never use chemicals. Pearls dislike everything strong — perfume, alcohol, vinegar, and even hairspray will dull their luster permanently.
Turquoise, opal, lapis (porous stones)Damp soft cloth only. Avoid soap, ultrasonic cleaners and salt water. These stones absorb liquids and fragrance.
Hard crystal beads (quartz, agate, jasper)Lukewarm water and mild soap, gentle brush, rinse, dry. Tolerates more cleaning than porous stones.
Wood beads (sandalwood, bodhi)Dry-cloth wipe only. Do not submerge in water. Ambient humidity and skin oil are what give them their natural patina over time.

Energy Cleansing

For traditional energy cleansing — meaningful especially for crystal and beaded pieces — choose any one method per month. They are not exclusive; pick what feels right for you.

MethodHow
Full moonPlace the piece on a windowsill on the night of the full moon. Bring it back inside before sunrise. Suitable for all crystals and beads.
Dry sea saltLay the piece on a bed of dry sea salt for 4–8 hours. Do not use for soft stones (turquoise, pearl, opal) — salt is corrosive to porous surfaces.
White sage smokePass the piece through the smoke of burning sage or palo santo for 30 seconds. Works for all materials and is safe to repeat weekly.
Singing bowlPlace the piece beside a Tibetan singing bowl and play it for 1–2 minutes. The vibration is non-contact — gentle for every material.

Storage

Store each piece individually in the velvet pouch provided, in a dry, cool place out of direct sunlight. Avoid stacking different metals in the same compartment. For long-term storage, an anti-tarnish strip in the silver pouch helps. Crystals appreciate occasional exposure to indirect daylight.

Resizing & Repair

For stretch beaded pieces we offer one complimentary resizing within 30 days of delivery, and complimentary re-stringing for the lifetime of the piece. For metal pieces we offer complimentary polishing and minor repair (clasp replacement, prong tightening) within the first year. After the first year, repairs are quoted on a case-by-case basis.

When to Seek Professional Service

  • ·A clasp that no longer locks securely.
  • ·A pearl or stone that has become loose or lost.
  • ·Visible cracks in any stone (crystals can develop hairline fractures over years).
  • ·Stretch cord that has become visibly thin or chalky.
  • ·Plating wear on rhodium-finished silver — we can re-plate.
